Fire Destroys House in Northern Volgograd, One Fatality

A fire on Vilnius Street in the Traktorozavodsky district of Volgograd completely destroyed a private house. The blaze engulfed two rooms and the roof of the building. A 75-year-old man who lived in the house with two other people died as a result of the incident.

According to the Main Directorate of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM) for the Volgograd region, a report of the fire was received at 9:58 a.m. Firefighting units from the first fire and rescue station extinguished the fire by 11:18 a.m. The total area of the fire was 70 square meters.

The department provided an official comment: «At 09:58 a report was received about a fire in the Traktorozavodsky district. Two rooms and the wooden roof sheathing were on fire in a wooden house, with a total area of 70 square meters. Units of the 1st PSC extinguished the fire at 11:18. A man born in 1950 died. The cause of the fire is being established.»

According to preliminary information, the cause of the fire was careless handling of fire while smoking by the deceased. The two other residents of the house were not injured and did not require medical assistance.
