Fire breaks out at Krasnoyarsk nursing home, two hospitalized
A fire required a major emergency response at a care facility.
A fire broke out at the «Rodnik» (Spring) nursing home for the elderly and disabled in Krasnoyarsk. It happened on the evening of 21 January.
A fleet of firefighting vehicles was deployed to combat the blaze.
According to the regional Emergencies Ministry (EMERCOM), the fire started in an office on the fifth floor. The blaze covered an area of 30 square meters.
At the time, there were 118 people in the building. People from the upper floors were immediately evacuated to the lower ones.
Sixty-five firefighters and 18 pieces of equipment were deployed to the scene. It took firefighters several hours to extinguish the fire.
«»Rodnik« is operating as normal today. We have moved some people to a different floor. There»s no real smell of burning, you can breathe and walk around. The fifth floor is currently off-limits to us, the staff, as special services are inspecting it. There are two injured residents who were hospitalized yesterday,« the nursing home told NGS24.RU.
Preliminary information suggests the fire was caused by a short circuit.
Supervisory authorities always have special requirements for living conditions and safety in such social institutions. However, they periodically make the news due to incidents. For instance, in August 2024, a criminal case was launched against the «Izumrudny» (Emerald) Nursing Home in the Berezovsky district.
According to the Krasnoyarsk Territory prosecutor«s office, residents were in an unhealthy living environment. Cleaning was done poorly, there was no hot water, and the ventilation system was broken. The management had also failed to organize a fire safety system.
