Fire at a store near Yaroslavl

A preliminary investigation points to an emergency power grid fault as the cause of a fire at a retail outlet. Everyone inside was evacuated safely.

On January 21, a fire broke out in a grocery store in the village of Krasnye Tkachi, Yaroslavl District. The fire started at around 4:00 p.m., when there were customers inside the building.

«Units of the gas and smoke protection service evacuated 11 people from the building, none of whom were injured,» the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM) reported.

Rescuers determined that the preliminary cause of the fire was an emergency operating mode of the power grid.

«The fire destroyed 10 meters of wiring and an Armstrong ceiling over an area of 12 square meters. The walls and ceiling were soot-stained, as well as merchandise over an area of 64 square meters,» the agency commented.

An investigation has been launched into the incident.

Earlier, on the night of January 20, a car service center burned down in Yaroslavl, where eight cars were completely destroyed. There were reports of bangs inside the premises where gas cylinders were stored. It took almost four hours to extinguish the fire, involving 32 rescuers and 12 pieces of equipment. An investigation has also been launched after this incident.
