Faulty Wiring Causes Deadly Fire in Bor Village

A fire in the village of Bor, Yaroslavl Oblast, killed one person, with emergency services citing faulty electrical wiring as the preliminary cause.

The fire that led to a fatality occurred on 24 January in the village of Bor, Nekrasovsky District, Yaroslavl Oblast.
The press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM) for the region stated: «The preliminary cause is a faulty electrical network. An investigation into the fire is being conducted.»
The fire call came to rescuers at 03:18. To extinguish the blaze, 24 firefighters and 7 pieces of equipment were deployed. The operation lasted 11 hours and ended at 14:25.
The fire completely destroyed a residential house with a total area of 150 square meters. As a result of the incident, a 57-year-old man died, and a 61-year-old woman was injured.
Specialists from the Russian EMERCOM remind about fire prevention measures:
  • regularly check the condition of electrical wiring;
  • do not use household appliances with signs of malfunction;
  • entrust the repair of electrical equipment only to professionals;
  • install autonomous fire detectors in living spaces.
Earlier, on 21 January, a grocery store in the settlement of Krasnye Tkachi caught fire due to a faulty electrical network. According to the department, in that incident, the fire damaged 10 meters of wiring, 12 square meters of ceiling, and smoked walls and goods over an area of 64 square meters.
