Father Drops Newborn from Fourth Floor to Save Her from Fire
An emergency occurred in Asbest on the night of January 24. A fire broke out in an apartment located directly below the home of a young family with an infant.
According to the girl«s father, Anton, when he and his wife smelled burning, their daughter was already asleep. The man tried to go out into the stairwell, but it was completely filled with smoke. After opening the window, thick smoke also began to enter the apartment.
I realized there was no other way out, there was very heavy smoke, we were barely breathing ourselves, we soaked rags in the snow on the windowsill and put them on our faces, but if we did that to the child, she would get frostbite,Anton said.
Seeing two men below, the father asked them to catch the child. There was no sheet at hand, so the newborn was caught just with their hands.
If there had been no people, I would have jumped myself and asked my wife to drop the child, because there was no other choice. I was saving her life first and foremost and understood that this was the only right decision,the father says.
The parents were later evacuated from the smoke-filled apartment by the arriving firefighters.
Currently, the baby girl is in the hospital with her mother. The medical examination did not reveal any injuries or fractures in the child, but the doctors decided to keep her under observation for a few days. The family expresses gratitude to the men who helped save the girl, but their names remain unknown.
