Fatal Crash Blocks Highway Near Yekaterinburg

Traffic on the Polevskoy Tract has come to a complete standstill. A crossover and a passenger car collided there, killing one person. Medics, rescuers, and GAI (the State Traffic Inspectorate) arrived at the scene.

“The man in the front seat was trapped, he was smoking a cigarette half out of the window. On the back seat, there was a bloody mess. There were a lot of people in the car,” an eyewitness told E1.RU.

“They say there’s a fatality here, so this will take a long time. GAI officers are recommending a detour via the Yekaterinburg Ring Road (EKAD). Two vehicles crashed: a crossover and a passenger car. No one knows how. Those who were first in the traffic jam have already left. The deceased was in the passenger car,” E1.RU journalist Anastasia Yakupova reports from the crash site.

The Yekaterinburg State Traffic Inspectorate told E1.RU that they are looking into the incident. More details will follow shortly.

Update. Preliminary reports indicate that the driver of a Nissan crossed into the oncoming lane and crashed into a Mercedes. A passenger in the Nissan died at the scene, and four other people in the vehicles were injured — they sustained injuries of varying severity, according to the GAI.

Several hours earlier on the Perm Tract, two women were fatally struck. They were helping to pull a car out of a ditch.
