A fire in a restaurant ventilation system led to the evacuation of a shopping center in St. Petersburg.

About five hundred people were evacuated from the Capitol mall in the Primorsky District of St. Petersburg. The cause of the evacuation was a fire caused by fat accumulation in the ventilation system of one of the restaurants.
The emergency occurred on February 3 at noon. As reported by the St. Petersburg EMERCOM Department, the fire broke out in the restaurant «Gusi-Lebedi» (Geese-Swans), located on the second floor of the building at Kolomyazhsky Prospekt, 19/2.
Representatives of the department stated: «There was burning in the ventilation exhaust duct and the kitchen environment over an area of 1 square meter.»
A little over half an hour later, the fire was completely extinguished. As a result of the incident, no one was injured.
Seven fire crews promptly arrived at the three-story mall. The managing company of the facility confirmed that the source of the smoke was one of the tenants.
