A family has been awarded 8 million rubles ($88,900) in moral damages from the Khilok Central Hospital for failing to provide timely care to their son, who died from cerebral edema. This was reported on 4 February on the website of the Central District Court of Chita.

The boy was hospitalized in 2023 due to persistent vomiting, weakness, and body pain: «The child»s arms and legs turned blue, he grew worse by the hour, suffered pain attacks, screamed in agony, and thrashed about on the hospital bed.«

The court concluded that the boy died because the doctors performed their duties improperly: «The plaintiffs» son did not receive basic medical care, spent several hours in hospital without medical supervision, and effectively died in the arms of his close relatives.«

It was established that the medical staff failed to assess the severity of the child«s condition, transferred him to the intensive care unit too late, consulted with another hospital, and administered infusion therapy.

The court ordered the hospital to pay 3 million rubles ($33,300) to each parent and 2 million rubles ($22,200) to the deceased boy«s brother.
