According to investigators, a 33-year-old man, previously deprived of his license and already convicted for drunk driving, once again got behind the wheel of a black Lada Kalina while intoxicated.

Around 19:45, he was driving from Novaya Street towards Dzerzhinsky Avenue. He lost control of the vehicle and at speed «caught up with» an orange trolleybus, which at that moment was stationary in the far left lane waiting to turn onto Khabarovskaya Street. Here is the moment of collision, captured by city surveillance cameras.

The injuries sustained by the 45-year-old passenger of the Kalina proved fatal — he died in the ambulance. The driver himself was also hospitalized with various injuries, and later found himself in the dock.

The man fully admitted his guilt, but refused to give testimony, invoking the provisions of Article 51 of the Russian Constitution. As a result, as reported by 56.RU, the Orenburg resident was sent to a general regime correctional colony for 6 years and 7 months, and deprived of the right to drive for another 3 years after release. And that«s not all: the townsman was ordered to pay about 169,000 rubles (approximately $1,900 at current rates) for the confiscation of the car.

Now the relatives of the deceased are asking the court to award compensation for moral damages — 750,000 rubles (about $8,300 at current rates) for each of them. The court is deciding on setting a date for the hearing.
