Eight hockey players poisoned at tournament in Arkhangelsk

In Arkhangelsk, eight teenagers from the hockey team «Mayak,» who came from Sverdlovsk Oblast for competitions, have been hospitalized. The young athletes« health deterioration began on January 23.
Initially, seven hockey players were taken to the Arkhangelsk Children«s Regional Hospital. According to doctors, there is no serious threat to their lives.
The head of the hospital«s infectious diseases department, Alexei Aruev, explained:
It«s not dangerous for the children»s lives at all. If they were in their hometown, we would have hospitalized only three, and prescribed outpatient treatment for all the others. But since they are staying in a hotel, it was decided to hospitalize everyone.
Later, poisoning symptoms appeared in one more player. All those affected are teenagers aged 14 to 16.
The regional Rospotrebnadzor confirmed that the number of victims has reached eight people. Laboratory tests detected type 2 norovirus RNA in them.
The athletes were staying at the Belomorskaya Hotel and eating at the nearby fast-food restaurant «Olivye.» An inspection has already been conducted at the establishment, and samples have been taken for analysis. A criminal case has been initiated over the mass poisoning under the article on providing services that do not meet safety requirements.
