An earthquake occurred on the night of January 25 on the border of Irkutsk Oblast and the Republic of Buryatia, according to the website of the Baikal Branch of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences (EGS RAS).

Seismic data placed the epicenter near the border area of Buryatia and Irkutsk Oblast.

The seismic event was recorded around 4 a.m. Irkutsk time. Its epicenter was in Buryatia«s Muysky District — 40 kilometers from the settlement of Taksimo and 145 kilometers from Bodaybo.

According to the Baikal Branch of EGS RAS, in Taksimo, the intensity of tremors could reach 4–5 points, and in the Severomuysky Tunnel — 3–4 points. Instruments also recorded the earthquake in Irkutsk Oblast: in the settlement of Nerpo in Bodaybinsky District, it was felt at 2 points.
