Drunk teenagers steal from parked cars in Murmansk

Two drunk teenagers in Kirovsk, Murmansk Region, have been detained for stealing valuables from unlocked parked cars in mid-January, facing up to five years in prison.

In Kirovsk, two teenagers have been detained; they are suspected of a series of thefts from citizens« cars.

In mid-January, residents of Olympic Street contacted the police. Overnight, items disappeared from their parked cars. Law enforcement found out that two teenagers were responsible: they checked if cars were locked, and if not, they entered and stole valuables.

A 17-year-old teenager, after breaking into two VAZ cars belonging to a 25-year-old and a 67-year-old resident of Kirovsk, stole a car receiver, a set of speakers, and a car stereo. The total damage amounted to over 5,500 rubles (approximately $73 at current rates). His 16-year-old accomplice stole a mobile phone, headphones, and a flash drive from the cabin of a car owned by a 21-year-old local resident, causing damage of about 10,000 rubles (approximately $133 at current rates), reported the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for Murmansk Region.

The teenagers were detained. They said they were drunk and planned to sell the items, but didn«t have time. The damage was compensated, and the stolen goods were returned to the owners.

Criminal cases have been initiated against the 17-year-old youth under Part 1 of Article 158 of the Russian Criminal Code «Theft», and against the 16-year-old under Part 2 of Article 158. They face imprisonment for up to two and five years, respectively. Their parents may be punished under Article 5.35 of the Russian Code of Administrative Offenses «Failure of parents or other legal representatives to fulfill obligations for the maintenance and upbringing of minors».

The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for Murmansk Region reminds:

Car owners need to be vigilant and not leave valuable items, documents, and money in the cabin, even when leaving the car for a short time. Be sure to lock the doors and activate the alarm.

  • Parents of minors should strengthen control over their children«s pastime, especially in the evening and at night, pay attention to their upbringing, and explain the unacceptability of unlawful behavior.

    Recall, in Murmansk Region, a 36-year-old woman and her 18-year-old son were detained: they were stealing goods from a marketplace.
