Drunk driver from Saraktash sentenced to colony for killing relative

The Saraktash District Court has sentenced a 32-year-old local resident, who was accused of a «drunk» traffic violation resulting in the negligent death of a person (clauses «a» and «b» of Part 4 of Article 264 of the Russian Criminal Code).
The accident for which he was responsible occurred on July 19 last year at the 56th kilometer of the Kamenoozernoye – Mednogorsk highway. The drunk man, disregarding that he had no driver«s license, got behind the wheel of a white Ford Focus, and his 22-year-old relative was in the passenger seat.
While driving towards Orenburg, the villager lost control of the vehicle, and his car veered into the right ditch. The man sustained severe injuries but survived, while his passenger died at the scene before medical teams arrived.
The injuries, of course, do not absolve the driver of responsibility: the court sentenced him to 4 years in a colony-settlement, plus banned him from driving for 2.5 years. The verdict has not yet entered into legal force and can be appealed.
