Drawbar Penetrates Gazelle Cabin in Fatal Krasnoyarsk Crash

Four children and a Federal Penitentiary Service employee died at the scene when a Gazelle minivan collided with a truck trailer near Krasnoyarsk.

An eyewitness at the accident scene in Rybinsky District, where four teenagers and a Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN) employee died, told an NGS24.RU correspondent what he saw inside the Gazelle after it hit an Iveco truck trailer.

«Seats were torn out of the cabin along with the seatbelts. Roughly speaking, the drawbar from the trailer entered the cabin, and all five people sitting on the left side — they died,» our source said.

Yesterday, relatives of the victims were also at the accident scene.

«Parents arrived. We saw three of them. They came one by one, approached, looked. It was all very hard,» the eyewitness continued.

The regional State Traffic Inspectorate did not specify information about the torn-out seats, but said that the accident was not due to weather conditions, road surface state, but the technical condition of the vehicles. The agency urged drivers to check their vehicles before driving.

The unlicensed driver who caused the fatal crash on the highway in Krasnoyarsk Krai was detained under Article 91 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Russian Federation. Children injured in the accident are in hospitals in Borodino, Kansk, and Krasnoyarsk. An air ambulance is preparing to fly from Krasnoyarsk to Borodino for another injured girl. She is in serious condition.
