Dog Attack on Omsk Teen Leads to Court-Ordered Compensation

A 14-year-old girl was hospitalized after a Staffordshire terrier attacked her in Omsk last September. The court has now ordered the dog's owner to pay for moral damages.

The court considered a criminal case regarding the attack of a fighting dog on a 14-year-old girl from Omsk. The incident occurred at the end of September last year near the entrance of one of the buildings in the residential complex «Tarskaya Krepost».

The girl was returning from a walk when she was attacked by a Staffordshire terrier that the owner was walking without a muzzle.

«The aggressive animal bit the girl on the left forearm, causing harm to her health. With the injuries sustained, the minor was hospitalized and spent a long time in the hospital. A criminal case was initiated based on the incident under Part 1, Article 118 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (causing grievous bodily harm through negligence),» the regional prosecutor«s office said.

The dog«s owner was demanded to pay 300,000 rubles (approximately $3,000 at current rates) as compensation for moral harm. The court granted the claim. The decision has not yet entered into force.
