In Yekaterinburg, the mother of a nine-year-old girl stated that doctors at a trauma center failed to detect a displaced fracture in her child. The schoolgirl was injured while leaving a training session and was immediately taken to the nearest medical facility on Parina Street.
“They did an X-ray and said: everything is fine, just a bruise. Put some gel on it. I decided to play it safe and went to the children«s clinic on Shamanova, where there is a very good traumatologist-orthopedist. He did another X-ray right away. The result — a displaced fracture,”the woman said.
The girl was referred to the 9th Children«s Hospital, where she had a cast applied. The question of the need for an operation is still being decided. The mother immediately reported the misdiagnosis to the management of the trauma center in the Akademichesky district.
“Either the radiologists did the X-ray that way, or the doctor didn»t see it. But the head of the department started defending her staff. And the first thing she said was that they don«t specialize in children,”added the mother of the victim.
The hospital that oversees the trauma center commented on the situation, noting that an official appeal is required for an investigation.
“We recommend that the applicant file an official appeal to the State Budgetary Healthcare Institution of the Sverdlovsk Region «Central City Clinical Hospital No. 6 of Yekaterinburg». After receiving the official appeal with all the necessary information, we will immediately conduct an investigation into the stated facts and take appropriate measures,”the institution stated.
