Criminal Case Opened After Visitor's Death at City Mall

The Investigative Committee of Russia has opened a criminal case regarding the death of a visitor during a conflict with security guards at the City Mall shopping and entertainment complex. The incident occurred in a Perekrëstok store located on Kolomyazhsky Prospect in St. Petersburg.

On January 22, the case was classified under the article on causing death by negligence. The decision to initiate criminal proceedings was made by the head of the Main Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee, Pavel Vymenets. The Primorsky District Prosecutor«s Office has taken the investigation under special control.

As part of the investigative actions, security guards have already been questioned, and footage from surveillance cameras has been seized. Forensic medical experts are determining the exact cause of death of the 24-year-old young man.

According to preliminary data, security guards stopped the visitor at the exit of the store, suspecting him of not paying for goods. Surveillance cameras recorded three men with an aerosol device confronting him, after which he ended up on the floor, and they piled on top of him.

A rapid response team arrived at the scene and tried to revive the victim using ammonia. He was hospitalized, but his life could not be saved. Police detained two security guards and a cleaner, while another employee of the security company fled the scene. The prosecutor«s office is now inspecting the activities of the private security company.
