On the evening of February 2, at the 965th kilometer of the federal highway R-255 «Siberia» in the Rybinsky district, an accident occurred that killed five people. An Iveco truck, towing a modular house from Kansk towards Krasnoyarsk, lost its trailer — it detached, crossed into the oncoming lane, and crashed into a passenger Gazelle minibus. At the wheel of the minibus was a 52-year-old driver, and inside were 13 people: candidates for admission to the Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN) departmental university and escorts. The group was returning to Kansk after preparatory courses in Krasnoyarsk.

The truck driver had a history of drunk driving and was operating the vehicle without a valid license.

As a result of the impact, three underage applicants, an 18-year-old student, and a 31-year-old employee of the Main Directorate of the Federal Penitentiary Service (GUFSIN) of Russia for the Krasnoyarsk Territory, who was accompanying the group, were killed. Another six injured were taken to hospitals in Borodino and Kansk, with doctors sent to them by air ambulance from Krasnoyarsk. The drivers of both vehicles survived.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Krasnoyarsk Territory, the truck was driven by a 50-year-old man who had previously had his license revoked for drunk driving. The revocation period expired in August 2024, but he never reinstated his driver«s license — meaning he was driving without the right to do so.

The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case under Part 5 of Article 264 of the Russian Criminal Code — violation of traffic rules resulting in the death of two or more persons. The regional prosecutor«s office is checking whether traffic rules and child transportation regulations were observed.

Governor Mikhail Kotyukov expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and instructed to provide them with support, and the Ministry of Health — to ensure all necessary assistance to the victims.

The section of the highway where the accident occurred can now be bypassed via the village of Rybnoye.
