Court Orders Novosibirskavtodor to Pay 150,000 Rubles for Stair Injury

A resident of Novosibirsk Oblast will receive compensation after falling from a staircase. This was reported by the regional prosecutor«s office on 27 January.

The incident occurred in March 2025 in the city of Ob – a pensioner slipped on a destroyed staircase and was injured. As a result, the woman had to undergo surgery and long-term treatment.
According to the prosecutor«s office, the area is under the jurisdiction of the TUAD (Territorial Administration of Automotive Roads) of the region, and its maintenance is the responsibility of AO Novosibirskavtodor.
«At the time of the incident, the staircase was in unsatisfactory condition: the steps were partially destroyed, and anti-icing treatment was not carried out in a timely manner,» clarified the prosecutor«s office.
The prosecutor filed a lawsuit against Novosibirskavtodor. The company insisted that repairs in winter were impossible.
«The court agreed with the prosecutor«s arguments that the duty to ensure pedestrian safety is round-the-clock and year-round,» reported the prosecutor»s office.
As a result, compensation of 150,000 rubles (about $1,700 at current rates) was recovered from the defendant. NGS contacted TUAD and Novosibirskavtodor for comment.
On Lenin Street in Novosibirsk, a woman injured her leg after falling on the sidewalk on the evening of 26 January. The victim was unable to get up on her own, and an ambulance was called for her.
