Court orders custody for attacker in Yaroslavl store

The Krasnoperekopsky District Court of Yaroslavl sanctioned the arrest of a 39-year-old local resident accused of attacking a woman in a grocery store. The incident occurred on the evening of January 19 in a supermarket on 8 Marta Street.
According to the prosecutor«s office, the man, in a state of sudden aggression, first overturned a shelf with goods in the pre-checkout area. Then he grabbed utility scissors lying at the checkout and struck a 55-year-old female customer. Other store visitors managed to neutralize the attacker and call law enforcement.
The investigation has initiated a criminal case under Part 2 of Article 213 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (hooliganism committed with the use of items used as weapons). Taking into account the position of the prosecutor«s office, the court chose a preventive measure for the defendant in the form of custody for two months. For the committed crime, the unemployed man faces punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to seven years.
