Court Arrests Pyotr Zhilkin Over Child Murder Confession

The Oktyabrsky District Court of St. Petersburg ordered pre-trial detention for Pyotr Zhilkin. The suspect will be held in custody until March 31.

On January 30, Pyotr Zhilkin took nine-year-old Pavel from the Lenta hypermarket on Tallinn Highway. The boy then disappeared and was never seen alive again.
The victim was a nine-year-old boy who disappeared after visiting a store.
Police and more than 200 volunteers took part in the search for the child. Pavel«s body was found on the night of February 3 near the Nizhny Shingarsky Waterfall. The location was pointed out by 38-year-old Zhilkin, who was detained in Pskov. A collection of child pornography was found on him, and he confessed to the murder.
On February 3, the Oktyabrsky District Court of St. Petersburg reviewed the investigation«s request for Zhilkin»s arrest. The investigator insisted on pre-trial detention, and the prosecutor«s office supported the demand. The defendant did not object to the measure. The court ordered Zhilkin to be sent to a detention center until March 31.
