In the Orenburg Regional Court, the sentence was toughened for a 41-year-old resident of the Novoorsky district, who was previously found guilty of committing a drunk driving accident that led to the death of a small child (point «a» of part 4 of Article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

The appellate court granted the prosecutor«s appeal, adding two years to the driver»s prison term.

As reported by 56.RU, this tragedy occurred on August 24, 2025 on the road from Novoorsk to Energetik. The man, after drinking, got behind the wheel of a Lada Granta. He violated traffic rules, swerved into the oncoming lane and collided with another Lada Granta.

In this accident, the most seriously injured was a two-month-old baby who was in the culprit«s car. The child was taken to the hospital, but the injuries were too severe — doctors could not save his life.

Initially, the Novoorsky District Court sentenced the culprit of the accident to 3 years of imprisonment in a settlement colony and deprived him of his driver«s license for 3 years, but prosecutor Andrei Kosenko considered this too lenient a verdict. The Orenburg Regional Court agreed with him:

— The appellate presentation of the supervisory body is satisfied — the previously assigned punishment of imprisonment for the convict is increased to 5 years. The court«s sentence has entered into legal force, — reported the press service of the prosecutor»s office.
