A chlorine release occurred on the territory of a wood processing plant in Bratsk, Irkutsk Oblast, between January 21 and 22. This was reported by the regional investigative department of Russia«s Investigative Committee (SK).

According to the investigation, six employees of the enterprise who were in the premises were injured as a result of the incident. The presumed cause is non-compliance with environmental protection standards.

The investigative department has initiated a criminal case under Article 246 of the Russian Criminal Code on violation of environmental protection rules during work operations. «As part of the criminal investigation, an assessment will be made of the actions of persons entrusted with the duty to comply with established rules during work operations,» stated the official message of the department.
