Cause of Capitoliy Mall Smoke Identified
On 3 February, smoke appeared at the Capitoliy shopping mall in St. Petersburg due to ignition of grease deposits in the exhaust system. Visitors were evacuated, and no active flames were observed.

The smoke incident occurred on 3 February at the Capitoliy shopping mall on Kolomyazhsky Prospekt. The press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MChS) for St. Petersburg attributed the cause to the ignition of grease deposits in the exhaust ventilation system.
As confirmed by the management company, the source of the smoke was one of the tenants — the Gusi-Lebedi restaurant. No open flames were recorded, and all visitors managed to leave the premises.
Fire crews arrived at the scene on Tuesday around 12:00 p.m. Clouds of smoke were clearly visible above the roof of the building, which houses about 70 organizations.
The prosecutor«s office of the Primorsky District of St. Petersburg is investigating all the circumstances of the incident.
