Carbon monoxide poisons six in Stavropol, including child

In Stavropol, another household gas experiment almost ended in tragedy. On Ryazanskaya Street, six people, including a child, were poisoned by carbon monoxide. Fortunately, there were no fatalities, but the situation could have been much worse.
As reported by the Stavropol Administration, the cause of the emergency was unauthorized interference with the gas boiler«s operation. Residents tampered with the chimney structure, causing combustion products to enter the apartment directly.
After the incident, city authorities together with Stavropolgorgaz reminded that repair, adjustment, and maintenance of gas equipment must be performed exclusively by licensed specialists. Any attempts to «tweak,» «clean,» or «remake» a gas boiler on one«s own can cost lives.
It is separately emphasized that the contract for technical maintenance of in-house gas equipment should be arranged in advance, not after an incident. Applications for gas equipment maintenance can be submitted by phone: 8 (8652) 237-104.
The city administration added: carbon monoxide is dangerous because it has no smell or color, so poisoning often occurs unnoticed—people lose consciousness without having time to understand what is happening.
