Car thief caught after Arkhangelsk gas station heist, apologizes

Police have found the car thief from a gas station in Arkhangelsk. The man took 7 seconds to get into the car and drive away. The detainee recorded a video with apologies. He was caught far from the city.

The Renault car was stolen on the evening of January 28 from a gas station on Obvodnoy.

«Taking advantage of the fact that the owner got out of the car, leaving the keys in the ignition, the perpetrator got into the foreign-made car and fled,» reported the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The suspect was detained in one of the villages of the Pinezhsky District. Police officers established the direction in which the perpetrator was moving and the identity of the alleged offender.

A criminal case has been initiated under Part 1 of Article 166 of the Russian Criminal Code — unlawful possession of a car or other vehicle without the intent of theft.

Employees of the internal affairs bodies are establishing the circumstances of the incident.

Recall that recently an Arkhangelsk resident attempted to rob a store, threatening an employee with an air pistol. She refused to give him money, and the man left. Very soon, he was detained by criminal investigation officers.

Another Arkhangelsk resident stole a painting from an art salon-gallery on Voskresenskaya. He was also found, and the painting was returned.

In 2025, a drunk resident of Nyandoma stole a car, kidnapped a person, and threatened him with a knife. Teenagers helped him commit the crimes.
