The child«s mother contacted the police around 3:30 PM when he did not come home. The disappearance was also reported in a local social media group.
The manhole where the body was found is located a few meters from the road on Yuzhnaya Street. The investigation suggests that the schoolboy turned onto the path to take a shortcut and fell into the water.
The deceased was from a large family and is survived by two younger siblings.
The prosecutor«s office of Chelyabinsk Oblast has initiated a check on compliance with housing and utilities legislation. The Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case under Part 2 of Article 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (causing death by negligence).
Preliminary information indicates that the well was filled with groundwater and was not maintained by utility services. A commission from the Ministry of Housing and Utilities is set to arrive in the city the next day.
