Belgorod tightens security as civilian deaths soar tenfold

Governor of the Belgorod region neighboring Voronezh, Vyacheslav Gladkov, said on the morning of 3 February that the operational situation remains extremely difficult. According to him, since the start of 2026, 21 civilians have died from armed attacks by Kyiv, 98 people have been wounded, among them six children. Gladkov noted that compared to the same period in 2025, the number of dead civilians in Belgorod has increased tenfold.
«Yesterday I met with heads of law enforcement agencies, this morning we are meeting with our BARS-Belgorod and Orlan units, with heads of border municipalities, and with representatives of the Ministry of Defense. We will strengthen protection and urgently take additional security measures,» said the head of the region.
The Belgorod region is regularly subjected to attacks by various types of drones and missile strikes. One of the AFU«s tactics is to strike civilian vehicles with drones, resulting in many deaths. That is why residents of the Voronezh region, which has also become one of the most attacked, should not neglect security measures when authorities declare a drone attack threat. In the Voronezh region, since the start of 2026, two women have died—they succumbed to severe wounds received during a massive raid by Ukrainian drones on 10 January.
