Bastrykin Demands Expedited Probe into Sochi Fire Death

Head of the Investigative Committee of Russia (SKR) Alexander Bastrykin issued a number of instructions regarding the criminal case that was initiated after the death of a woman in a fire in Sochi. Bastrykin responded to the appeal of the deceased woman«s mother, which she posted on social media. She disagrees with the course of establishing the circumstances of her 37-year-old daughter»s death.
In December of last year, a fire broke out in an auto repair shop in the industrial zone of Sochi, spreading to adjacent warehouse premises and the building where the woman lived.
Due to the absence of emergency exits in the building and the improper work of the rescuers who arrived at the scene, the daughter of the complainant was forced to jump from the window of the fourth floor. The victim with the injuries sustained was hospitalized in a medical institution, where she died after a short time. To date, no one has been held accountable. This situation is covered in the media and social networks. In the Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for Krasnodar Krai, a criminal case is being investigated on this fact.
Bastrykin instructed the head of the Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for Krasnodar Krai, Andrei Maslov, to report on the reasons for the procrastination in the criminal case. He also demanded to expedite the investigation of the case and submit a report on its results. The execution of the instruction has been put under control in the central apparatus of the department.
