A couple from Bashkiria was involved in a multi-vehicle accident in Serbia, leaving the husband in an induced coma and the wife with multiple fractures.

On January 27, 2026, on the Novi Sad–Subotica highway in Serbia, a mass accident occurred involving four vehicles. In one of the cars was a married couple from Bashkiria — a 33-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman.

The consequences were almost worse than the accident itself — the husband in a coma and in intensive care. Now their relatives are desperately trying to secure medical assistance and start an investigation, but are facing bureaucratic and language barriers. A relative of the married couple told UFA1.RU about the incident and its details.
The culprit of the chain of tragic events is the driver of a Volkswagen. According to relatives, he deliberately drove into the oncoming lane and traveled on it for more than 10 minutes until a head-on collision occurred with an Audi, where the Russians were traveling. Following this, two more cars crashed into the already damaged vehicle.
The drivers of the two cars that hit afterwards sustained minor injuries, which cannot be said for the married couple — the man was put into an induced coma after a complex operation, and the woman with numerous fractures was sent to Belgrade. Both are in intensive care, in serious condition.
As a relative of the injured woman told UFA1.RU, the lack of a translator is severely complicating the situation: doctors cannot gather a full medical history, and the family cannot obtain clear information about their loved ones« condition.
«We are in urgent need of assistance from the Embassy and translation help. Any support is critically important for us now,» says the relative.
The legal proceedings regarding the accident have not yet begun. As explained by the lawyer representing the family«s interests, the case will not move forward until the culprit of the accident, who is also in the hospital, is deemed competent to give testimony.
