A fire occurred at the Volkov Theater in Yaroslavl. On July 19, a canvas covering renovation work on the facade burst into flames. Witnesses began sharing photos from the scene late in the evening.

“Last evening, the photo facade (a decorative panel with an image of the building during renovations) caught fire on the Volkov Theater,” the group “Overheard in Yaroslavl!” stated.

While the cause of the fire is being determined, Yaroslavl residents are already sharing their versions. In comments under the post, many suspect it was arson.

“People were standing nearby, but I didn’t manage to see who exactly; let them check the cameras, it clearly didn’t catch fire by itself,” shared Svetlana Starkova.

As reported by the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations of Yaroslavl Oblast (EMERCOM), they learned about the fire at 10:56 p.m. Eight rescuers and two special vehicles were dispatched to extinguish the facade banner at 1 Volkov Square.

The flames did not have time to burn much — three square meters of the canvas were destroyed, and the fire was extinguished in three minutes.

“There are no casualties,” noted the regional EMERCOM.

Also late on July 19, near Frunze Prospect in Yaroslavl, a huge column of smoke rose. The fire started at 10:37 p.m. on 4 Morozovskaya Street. Firefighters battled the blaze for four hours.
