Bank Fined for Harassing Woman Over False Debt
A bank in Yekaterinburg was fined 300,000 rubles ($3,000 at current rates) after harassing a woman nearly 40 times over a debt she never incurred.

A bank in Yekaterinburg was fined 300,000 rubles ($3,000 at current rates) for making harassing calls demanding repayment of a debt. The bank employees demanded money from a woman who had never taken out a loan. She received nearly 40 calls in just a few days.
Tired of the calls, she turned to court bailiffs for help.
«There are no credit agreements between her and the bank under which a debt could have arisen. However, her husband had credit obligations to the bank,» the press service of the bailiff service reported.
The bank was brought to administrative responsibility for violating the law on protecting individuals« rights when collecting overdue debts. A large fine was imposed.
