Bank Fined for Demands on Debtor's Wife

A court ordered the bank to pay 300,000 rubles ($3,000 at current rates) to a Yekaterinburg resident for persistent calls demanding repayment of another person«s debt. Over several days, the woman received about 40 calls from employees of the credit institution.

The press service of the Federal Bailiff Service (FSSP) explained: «There are no signed loan agreements between her and the bank under which debt could have arisen. However, her husband had credit obligations to the bank.» After numerous calls, the victim was forced to seek help from the bailiffs.

The credit organization was held administratively liable for violating legislation on protecting citizens« rights during the collection of overdue debt and was fined a large amount.
