Head of Yakutia Aysen Nikolayev introduced a special fire safety regime across the republic due to increasing incidents, he announced on his Max channel following a meeting of the emergency commission.

‘I particularly appeal to residents. Please, pay attention to household safety. Simple measures like installing detectors, checking electrical wiring, and careful handling of fire sources in homes can prevent tragedies. Only through joint actions can we protect lives, especially children’s,’ he wrote.

Nikolayev stated that he ordered enhanced prevention and the installation of more fire detectors in homes. Official inspections will be conducted in several districts to improve service discipline and the effectiveness of prevention and control.

The latest fire occurred on the night of January 28 in a two-story private house. By the time firefighters arrived, the second floor was fully ablaze, and the house was completely destroyed. Ten personnel and two units of equipment were deployed to fight the blaze.

Five people died, including two children. In the intensive care unit of Nyurba Central Hospital, a 4-year-old girl and her 27-year-old mother are fighting for their lives in critical condition. Doctors are consulting with burn specialists at Republican Hospital No. 2 via telemedicine for treatment strategies. A criminal case has been initiated due to the incident.
