Aviation Accident in Orenburg Claims Lives of Cadets

A training aircraft Diamond DA40 crashed in the Orenburg region during a training flight. Three people died, including a pilot-instructor and two cadets from St. Petersburg.

Rosaviatsia (Federal Air Transport Agency) confirmed three fatalities as a result of an aviation accident involving a training aircraft Diamond DA40 that was performing a training flight.
On board the aircraft were a 35-year-old pilot-instructor and two cadets from the St. Petersburg State University of Civil Aviation (SPbGU GA). The students were aged 20 and 21.
The investigation of the incident will be conducted by the Interstate Aviation Committee (IAC). The head of Rosaviatsia, Dmitry Yadrov, and the rector of SPbGU GA, Yuri Mikhalchevsky, flew to the scene.
The Ural Transport Prosecutor«s Office has organized a pre-investigation check. Preliminary, the actions have been qualified as a violation of the safety rules for the movement and operation of air transport under Article 263 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
University representatives stated: «We are not yet aware of the details, we are finding out.»
The aircraft with registration number RA-02673 belonged to the St. Petersburg State University of Civil Aviation.
