Altai in top three Russian regions for road deaths

The Altai Republic has ranked among the top three regions with the highest mortality rates in road accidents in 2025, according to RIA Novosti.

According to statistics, in the region, there are 22 fatalities per 100,000 population, which is the second highest rate in the country.

Tuva leads the ranking, with 32.7 people per 100,000 population dying in road accidents.

High fatality rates are also observed in the Oryol and Jewish Autonomous Oblasts, with rates of 20.1 and 20.07 per 100,000 residents, respectively.

In total, in 2025, road accidents claimed the lives of over 13.9 thousand people in Russia, which translates to 9.5 fatalities per 100,000 population.

The fewest fatalities occur in Moscow, where there are only 2.2 deaths per 100,000 residents, which is 7.3 lower than the national average. Low numbers are also seen in the Nenets Autonomous Okrug and St. Petersburg, with 2.3 and 2.6 fatalities per 100,000 residents, respectively.
