98-year-old woman dies in house fire in Transbaikal

A woman born in 1928 died in a fire at a residential apartment building in the village of Kokuy, Sretensky District, Transbaikal region, on the evening of January 31, according to the MAX-channel of the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MChS).

In the evening, a report was received about a fire in one of the apartments. The fire was extinguished by firefighters from «Zabaykalpoghnspas» and the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations. Gas and smoke protection service personnel evacuated 12 people from the house, including 5 children. Another 36 people left the building on their own.

In an apartment one floor above where the fire originated, a 98-year-old woman was found without signs of life.

The cause of the fire is being determined by an investigative and operational team.
