The Investigative Committee of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast reports that a criminal case has been initiated after an elevator fell in one of the residential buildings in Arzamas. The incident occurred when the cabin, which was at the level of the eighth floor, crashed down. A man was inside at the time and sustained bodily injuries. According to the agency, the victim«s life is not currently in danger.

The criminal case has been initiated under the article on providing services that do not meet safety requirements. The Investigative Committee stated:

Currently, the investigator is carrying out the necessary investigative actions aimed at establishing all the circumstances of the incident. As part of the criminal investigation, technical documentation on the maintenance, repair, and operation of elevator equipment in the apartment building will be seized and thoroughly examined.

In autumn, a similar incident occurred in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast. In Dzerzhinsk, a 19-year-old girl was trapped in a faulty elevator in a shopping center. Rescuers from the Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM) managed to free her.
