13 people die in Omsk region fires in January 2026

The regional emergency services in Omsk reported a total of 200 fires during the month of January.
In January 2026, 13 people died, 11 more were injured, and 50 were rescued in fires in the Omsk region. The statistics were shared by the regional branch of the Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM).
A total of 200 fires occurred during the month. The most common cause was violation of rules for using electrical equipment (72 cases).
“Such incidents are usually caused by the wear and tear of electrical wiring in buildings, the use of faulty or uncertified electrical appliances, as well as overloads of electrical networks during peak load periods, for example on cold days or during holidays. Part of January this year passed in conditions of abnormal frosts.”
Fires also often occurred due to improper use of stoves (69 cases) and due to careless handling of fire (47 cases).
Over 70% of fires occurred in the residential sector.
