Doctors save infant with extremely low birth weight after three-month fight

The Tula Regional Perinatal Center has discharged a baby after months of care for extremely low birth weight.
Doctors at the Tula Regional Perinatal Center have discharged a baby boy from Alekseen who was born with an extremely low birth weight — just 980 grams (2 lbs 3 oz). They fought for his life for almost three months.
The child was born on October 20, 2025. Immediately after birth, he was placed in the neonatal intensive care unit. The baby required serious medical support, including artificial lung ventilation, special nutrition, and constant monitoring of his vital organs.
After a month and a half, the child«s condition stabilized, and he was transferred to the department of pathology for newborns and premature babies. There, he stayed with his mother, who, under the supervision of specialists, learned to care for a low-weight infant.
According to the attending neonatologist Natalia Dutova, babies born at this weight are not ready for independent life, so the main task for doctors — is to create conditions as close as possible to the intrauterine environment and to support their development step by step.
By the time of his discharge, the boy, named Pavel, had gained weight up to 3150 grams (6 lbs 15 oz), had started feeding independently, and was gaining weight well.
