Zabaikalsky Krai Clinical Hospital Reports 2025 Results and Plans

Healthcare in Zabaikalsky Krai continues to develop, implement modern technologies, and improve the quality of medical care. On 23 January a roundtable was held in Chita on the topic «With What Results and Plans is Zabaikalsky Krai Healthcare Entering 2026?», where representatives of the Ministry of Health, Chita State Medical Academy (ChSMA), state and private clinics discussed the results of 2025, key industry problems, and development prospects.

Among the speakers was acting chief physician of the Zabaikalsky Krai Clinical Hospital Mikhail Alferyev, who presented the results of the work of the largest multidisciplinary medical institution in the region.

The Zabaikalsky Krai Clinical Hospital today is a hospital with 916 beds, 54 departments, 12 specialized centers, a polyclinic for 500 visits per shift, and a perinatal center with 96 places. The institution provides care in 155 types of medical activities — from primary to high-tech, equipped with modern diagnostic and treatment equipment.

People Are the Clinic«s Main Resource

«Any leader»s speech begins with talk about the team,« emphasized Mikhail Alferyev, speaking about the year»s results.
About 1,700 employees work at the Zabaikalsky Krai Clinical Hospital, of which more than 400 are doctors, including those with doctoral and candidate of medical sciences degrees.
The hospital remains the largest clinical base of the Chita State Medical Academy: 11 departments are located here. In 2025 63 doctors underwent additional training and specialization, and the mentorship system allows young specialists to work alongside experienced colleagues and confidently master complex medical practices.
Numbers That Represent Lives
In 2025, almost 30,000 people received medical care within the clinic«s walls, more than 12,000 of them residents of districts of Zabaikalsky Krai. The volume of surgical operations increased by 4–5% compared to the previous year — to 22,000. Doctors performed interventions in 16 specialties — from traumatology and cardiac surgery to neuro- and X-ray surgery.
High-tech medical care was received by 3,847 patients — 16% more than the year before. The perinatal center handled about 2,000 births, including 16 sets of twins, providing care to women with severe extragenital pathology.
Telemedicine as an Accessibility Tool
As one of the region«s main hospitals, the facility actively uses telemedicine consultations. In 2025, specialists consulted 976 patients from districts of the krai and conducted 790 consultations with federal scientific centers — on the most complex and emergency cases, including traffic accidents, severe injuries, and complicated pregnancies.
New Centers and Care Pathways
One of the key events of the year for ZKKB was the opening of a specialized endocrinology center as part of the federal program to combat diabetes. The center operates on a one-stop-shop principle: patients receive consultations from endocrinologists, ophthalmologists, nephrologists, neurologists, undergo diagnostics, and if necessary, laser treatment. Over the year, more than 5,000 people were treated here. All services are provided free of charge under the compulsory health insurance (CHI) system.
Another important step was the opening of a separate admission department for patients suspected of stroke and heart attack. An isolated pathway allowed the reduction of the critical time from admission to the start of specialized care. Since August, more than 3,000 patients have passed through the new department.
Equipment and Technology
In 2025, the clinic received dozens of units of modern equipment under national programs. The medical rehabilitation department was equipped with 32 units of high-tech equipment, including robotic trainers and motion recovery systems. The perinatal center received 143 units of equipment, and another 64 by order of the Russian government.
«Patients today are provided with everything necessary for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation,» noted Mikhail Alferyev.
Innovations in Treatment
For the first time in Zabaikalsky Krai, at the end of 2025, surgical treatment of arrhythmias by radiofrequency ablation began. Previously, such operations were performed only outside the region. Already 20 successful interventions have been performed, and in 2026 ZKKB plans to conduct even more.
Also, the hospital performed unique neurosurgical operations for severe brain injuries, introduced new urological methods, and actively developed medical rehabilitation after strokes, injuries, and complex operations.
Recognition and Life Beyond the Clinic«s Walls
The regional clinical hospital in 2024 and 2025 became the winner of the People«s Prize in the nomination »Medical Clinic of the Year«, and also entered the top-10 best clinics in the region according to »ProDoctors«. The team actively participates in sports and public events, winning prizes at the krai level.
The results of 2025 showed: Zabaikalsky Krai Clinical Hospital is confidently developing as a center of high medical technologies, a strong team, and a comprehensive approach to the patient. Ahead lies the further introduction of innovative methods, equipment renewal, and growth in the volume of care. Preserving the best traditions of regional medicine, the clinic continues to work with an eye to the future. So that medical care in Zabaikalsky Krai remains accessible, modern, and truly effective.
