The demand for internet services in the Kazan agglomeration has almost doubled. Last year, mobile traffic in settlements bordering the capital of Tatarstan increased by 93% compared to 2023.
The settlements with the highest data usage include Kuyuki, Usady, and Osinovo. Laishevsky District surpassed Pestretchinsky District in total mobile traffic volume, but per subscriber, the leader is the settlement of Biryulinsky Zverosovkhoz, where a user needs an average of 52 GB per month. Next are Novopolsky District with 48 GB and Oktyabrsky District — which accounts for 45 GB.
The main driver of growth has been the young audience. Users aged 15 to 24 showed the highest dynamics — increasing their download volume by 3.5 times. This same age group also has the highest consumption per subscriber — an average of 32 GB monthly in 2025.
Second place goes to the audience aged 25–34, whose internet activity doubled. Rounding out the top three are users aged 35–44 with a growth rate of 66%. Moreover, men use mobile internet in suburban areas 1.5 times more intensively than women. These conclusions were reached by analysts from MegaFon after studying anonymized subscriber data.
“The development of suburbs and the construction of affordable housing attract young people accustomed to a rich digital life, remote work, and study. By recording traffic growth and an increase in residents in certain locations, we are building additional communication facilities. Among the recent projects — the launch of new base stations in Sokury and Lesnye Morkvashi. The installed equipment is necessary to provide communication and internet both in the settlements themselves and in adjacent cottage villages and residential complexes,” said Mikhail Rusinov, director of the operator in Tatarstan.
In the consumption structure, video content still dominates. Watching movies, series, and short videos takes up more than a third of all traffic. Also in the top are messengers and social networks. The highest traffic values are recorded on weekends — Saturday and Sunday equally. During the day, the peak occurs at 12:00, while voice calls are made more often in the evening — from 18:00 to 20:00.
