Yelets Man Held for Large-Scale Marijuana Possession

Officers from the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs« drug control department in Yelets conducted an operation and detained a 24-year-old local resident. The man is suspected of illegal drug trafficking. During a search of his residence, police seized three containers with plant matter. An examination confirmed it to be marijuana weighing approximately 724 grams (about 1.6 lb). According to the suspect, he kept the »weed« for personal use. A criminal case has been opened under Article 228, Part 2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which carries a sentence of up to ten years in prison.
