Yaroslavl Mayor Updates on Historic Trefolev House Renovation

Yaroslavl Mayor Artem Molchanov told at what stage the reconstruction works are for the historic house at 12 Trefolev Street in the city center. At the end of 2024, the premises inside the cultural heritage site were sold for 16 million rubles (about $160,000 at current rates) to a company from St. Petersburg.
«Today there is an owner who is already developing a project, already working on unifying the entire building into a single structure. For now, we understand that it will be a hotel. Because the owners who acquired it have a network of hotels,» the mayor said during a live broadcast in the studio of the newspaper «Gorodskiye Novosti» (City News).
Artem Molchanov also said that he was inside the building. He clarified that bringing the premises into order requires huge investments.
The new owner of the premises in the historic building is the St. Petersburg firm «Harbor Club», which is engaged in the hotel business. Earlier in a conversation with 76.RU, the company owner Vladimir Drozdov said that he plans to open a hotel there.
«It is premature to talk about its level and style at this stage. But we would like to strive for a four-star level. Possibly, it will be a boutique hotel,» Vladimir Drozdov assumed in December 2024.
At that time, the company owner said that he would like to open the hotel in Yaroslavl at the end of 2026 or the beginning of 2027.
House No. 12 on Trefolev Street was built in 1847. The Yaroslavl poet and journalist Leonid Trefolev lived and worked there, after whom the street where the building is located was later named. Also, this object is known as the Kozhina-Volkov-Ilyin-Vlasiev Revenue House (a historic apartment building). The building is a recognized cultural heritage site.
The city administration repeatedly tried to sell the building. In 2021, it was put up for auction for 24.9 million rubles (about $249,000 at current rates). In November 2020 — for 29.9 million rubles (about $299,000 at current rates). But at that time, no one purchased it.
In the summer of 2023, the authorities told about a new plan. They wanted to transfer the premises in the historic building to socially oriented non-profit organizations for free use for 49 years. Allegedly, there were interested people who wanted to create a museum alley inside the object. But the plans never came to fruition. When it came down to it, no one submitted applications for the competition. As a result, the vacant premises in the house were again put up for auction.
The mayor«s office explained that not the entire building was put up for sale, because part of the premises in it, belonging to the city, are provided for rent and under contracts of free use to socially oriented non-profit organizations.
