The Central Market in Yaroslavl was put up for auction twice but remains unsold. The first attempt was in November 2025 with a starting price of 150.5 million rubles (about $2 million at current rates), yet no buyers were found. In January 2026, the situation repeated itself.

Mayor Artyom Molchanov expressed his opinion at an open meeting on February 3. «There is a feeling that we need to get rid of the Central Market as soon as possible,» he stated. «The sale of the property is underway. No one sells such properties in three seconds. We are looking for a proper investor who should undertake the modernization of the facility.»

The issue of selling the market was discussed back in 2021, but then, due to protests from deputies and residents, the idea was abandoned. Despite this, part of the premises on Nakhimson Street was sold to the company «Gallery».

In 2025, city authorities stated that the market does not bring significant income to the budget, and for its reconstruction, investments of hundreds of millions of rubles are required. Since the municipality does not have such funds, it was decided to sell the property to attract a private investor.

According to the mayor, the sale of the market could contribute to the improvement of the historical center of Yaroslavl, where the creation of pedestrian zones and placement of cafes and restaurants are planned.
