The Ural Plant of Anti-Icing Materials (UZPM) — Russia«s leading producer of modern ice-fighting agents under the Bionord brand — has begun shipping the Bionord Universal compound for the winter maintenance of a section of the federal highway M-12 »Vostok« in the Republic of Tatarstan.

The M-12 highway, which opened in December 2023, connects Moscow with Kazan and has reduced travel time between the capitals to six and a half hours. The road runs through five regions — Moscow, Vladimir, and Nizhny Novgorod Oblasts, Chuvashia, and Tatarstan. The highway will become part of the «Russia» corridor, stretching from St. Petersburg to Vladivostok for twelve thousand kilometers.

Bionord Universal is produced using the «Unified Granule» technology, where active substances are distributed evenly across the treated surface. The reagent begins to work within twenty minutes of application and is effective in frosts down to –30 °C (–22 °F). Consumption is seven times lower than that of sand-salt mixtures. Corrosion inhibitors included in the composition reduce aggressive impact on metal structures and concrete elements of the road.

— The Volga region has a continental climate characterized by sharp temperature fluctuations. In winter, thaws are often followed by cold snaps down to –30 °C (–22 °F), with frequent fog and frost. Under such conditions, traditional sand-salt mixtures perform inconsistently: in severe frosts, their effectiveness drops, and during transitions through zero, they fail to prevent re-icing. On a high-speed highway where cars travel at up to 130 kilometers per hour, the quality of surface treatment directly determines the safety of drivers and passengers, so it is crucial to use reagents that can quickly remove ice and maintain road grip in any weather conditions, — said Artem Dovzhenko, manager for federal and regional roads at UZPM Trading House LLC.

Materials under the Bionord brand are used in more than fifty regions of the country for maintaining federal highways, airports, city streets, and courtyard areas. The production base of the enterprise is located in Krasnokamsk, Perm Krai. All products are certified according to GOST R 58427-2020, marked with the «100 Best Goods of Russia» sign, and have a positive conclusion from the state environmental expert review.
