William and Meghan Clash Over 'Tasteless' Diana Documentary

Prince William and Meghan Markle apparently cannot see eye to eye again. The cause is an upcoming streaming service project dedicated to William«s late mother, Princess Diana.

According to media reports, the future king is involved in a new and deeply personal conflict with his sister-in-law. Sources say that William considers the idea of such a project «tasteless» and «deeply offensive».

The tension is linked to plans by Prince Harry, Meghan«s husband, to create a documentary for the 30th anniversary of Diana»s death in August 2027. This project is part of the couple«s multi-million dollar deal with the streaming service. However, William is said to be furious at the thought that his mother»s life will be revisited for commercial gain, especially given Meghan«s central role behind the scenes.

Harry and Meghan distanced themselves from the royal family after stepping back from official duties in 2020 and moving to California. Their relationship with William has deteriorated further in recent years due to public criticism of the monarchy, Harry«s memoirs, and several high-profile interviews.

One insider said: «Harry is absolutely determined to honor his mother»s memory and firmly believes that, as her son, he has the right to tell her story. From his point of view, this project does not require his brother«s approval, and he resents the idea that anyone could dictate how he remembers Diana.»
«What really angered William is the extent of Meghan»s involvement. He sees her presence as crossing a deeply personal boundary and believes that allowing her to shape or benefit from Diana«s legacy is a betrayal of his mother»s memory,« the source added.
As part of the deal with the streaming service, Harry is understood to be developing a documentary exploring Diana«s life, her relationship with the media and monarchy, and the impact of her death on her children. The project»s details are closely guarded, but according to sources, it is meant to be frank and uncompromising.
Another insider said: «Harry has long believed that the narrative about his mother has been distorted and mishandled over the years. He sincerely believes that when Diana most needed protection and understanding, the institution of the monarchy failed her.»
«Because of this, he does not trust the monarchy as the guardian of her legacy. In his view, the royal establishment has lost the moral right to control how she is remembered, which is why he is so strongly convinced that her story must be told outside the palace walls,» the source explained.
This position is reportedly directly contrary to William«s views. William»s anger is said to stem from a fear that his mother«s memory is being exploited. One insider said: »From William«s perspective, this goes beyond anything that has happened before. He sees it as a violation of a fundamental boundary and finds the whole idea deeply unpleasant. In his opinion, turning Diana»s life into a commercial project is disrespectful, and he is sure that she would never have wanted her story to be used for profit—especially by a streaming service.«
The involvement of the streaming service is reportedly particularly provocative. This service also released the series «The Crown,» a dramatization of royal history that William is widely reported to dislike. A source said: «The very fact of this service»s involvement is enough to irritate William. William has never gotten over his anger about «The Crown» and what he feels it represented. For him, this project brings all that resentment back to light and feels like a renewal of a battle he thought should have been forgotten.«
Despite the soured relationship, William and Harry have previously united to honor Diana. In 2017, they appeared together in the BBC documentary «Diana, 7 Days,» and in 2021, they jointly unveiled a statue of their mother at Kensington Palace on what would have been her 60th birthday. Harry has repeatedly spoken about the trauma of losing his mother at age 12 and the lack of emotional support he felt afterward.
