Why Kstovo Residents Are Being Promised Fake Medals

Scammers are mass-calling residents of Kstovsky District, inviting them to the local administration purportedly to receive medals. As a result, residents have flooded the mayor«s office with calls asking where they can collect their awards. Officials could not stand it and asked people not to fall for the scammers» schemes.
Residents of Kstovo report receiving calls from strangers who address them by their full name and patronymic, and sometimes even send email «invitations» to receive medals in rooms No. 3 and No. 9 of the Kstovo administration building. But in reality, there are neither medals nor rooms with those numbers.
«At the same time, to «clarify the data,» the criminals ask for passport details, SNILS (Russian individual insurance account number), and other personal information. The administration of Kstovsky District does not request personal data by phone or email. If you receive such calls, hang up immediately and block the number,» the administration warned.
Earlier, scammers devised another method to extract personal data from Russians. They call pretending to be a mobile operator and say that the contract needs to be urgently renewed, otherwise the number will be disconnected.
