In the large village of Zapravnoye in the Leninsky District of Volgograd Oblast, over three thousand people have been left without heating and water supply during severe frost. The utility accident occurred on January 24 after pump failures, leading to the shutdown of the boiler house.

According to eyewitnesses, the cause was the entry of frazil ice into the water intake pipes. «There is the village of Zapravnoye, where more than three thousand people live. Yesterday, the water supply pump burned out. At the Volga Hydroelectric Power Station, they raised the water discharge level. The pump was pumping water, and because the water level rose, slush, frazil ice, started flowing. Ice got into the pipe, and the pump burned out. They installed a second pump, it worked, and also burned out,» says the interlocutor. «The pump burned out, water supply stopped, and pressure dropped at the boiler house. They managed to start the boiler house somehow. But while the boiler house wasn»t working, it got colder. People started draining water from radiators to make it warmer. This morning, the boiler house stopped again because there isn«t enough water in the system.»

The administration of Leninsky District confirmed the shutdown of utility services. They characterized the situation as severe but controllable: emergency teams are working on site, water delivery has been organized, and there is a sufficient supply of bottled water in stores. Water supply and heating are promised to be restored within the day.

Simultaneously, in Volgograd, residents of houses on Kostychev Street in the Verkhnezarechensky settlement have also been without hot water since yesterday. According to their information, dispatch services cannot provide prompt assistance, and the management company only reported that restoration work will be carried out in the near future without specifying exact timelines.
