Voronezh region to see 24-degree temperature surge

The sudden temperature rise in the Voronezh region may result in hazardous ice conditions.
The severe frosts that have been raging in Voronezh and the region over the past couple of weeks will abruptly give way to above-freezing temperatures in the last days of January. This is according to a warning from the regional Hydrometeorological Center.
On Tuesday, January 27, frost is still expected in the region. During the day, thermometers will show up to -14 degrees Celsius (7°F), at night — up to -21 degrees Celsius (-6°F). On the night of Wednesday, January 28, frost down to -16 degrees Celsius (3°F) is possible, but during the day the temperature will climb sharply: the air will suddenly warm to 0 degrees Celsius (32°F), and in some places — to +2 degrees Celsius (36°F).
On Thursday, January 29, it will be even warmer — with temperatures expected to reach up to +3 degrees Celsius (37°F). Moreover, wet snow will fall, turning to rain in some places. At night, light frosts down to -5 degrees Celsius (23°F) are possible, but on average thermometers will show from 0 to -3 degrees Celsius (32 to 27°F).
The Gismeteo portal forecasts that such a temperature swing will result in strong winds, ice, and fog for the Voronezh region, expected closer to the weekend.
